Henry `Woody' McCandless
Services for Henry ``Woody'' McCandless, 89, of East Moline, are 1 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, East Moline.
Mr. McCandless died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
He was born July 14, 1912, in Louisville, Ky., son of Henry C. and Nettie L. Dodd McCandless. He married Doris Eloise Horton. He later married Valentine Veryzer Esposito in 1969.
Woody worked in quality control and retired as an inspector from John Deere after 41 years.
He enjoyed gardening, listening to music and fixing anything that was broken.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Valentine; daughter, Karen (Sam) McCrieght, Houston, Texas; son, Richard McCandless, in Oklahoma; stepdaughter, Marie (Thomas) Evans, East Moline; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Laura (Alfred) Turner and Phyllis (Joe) Ishy, both in Texas.
