James Lemuel Ernest Brantley was a physician and father of six children. He was married to Beulah Louise Watson/Brantley/Gresham. They apparently divorced and she remarried and had two daughters with her second husband. Little is known about Dr. Brantley or his wife.

They were still married in August of 1922. She had to have remarried very soon after that to Charles Raymond Gresham. The children by the first marriage apparently still lived with Dr. Brantley. The 1930 census shows three of the children, Charles Quillian, Margaret and Lammie living in Dr. Brantley's house - both parents had died, she in 1926 and he in 1929. If you are kin to and/or have pictures of Dr. Brantley or his family, please contact me - he was my uncle.

Dr. Brantley died of apoplexy - cerebral hemorrhage (stroke). Aged 48 years, 7 months, 9 days. Widowed. His wife, even though they were divorced, is buried here with him.

The pictures you see to the right were given to me by Debra, a granddaughter of Beulah Gresham/Brantley. She is from the second marriage of Beulah. She wanted a Brantley relative to have the pictures. We met two days after initial contact in Savannah, Ga, where she lives. She graciously gave me a box of albums, pictures, etc that had belonged to Thelma Louise Brantley, Dr. Brantley & Beulah's daughter. She had the box of pictures for 30 years in a shed, waiting to find someone kin.

Some of the pictures were of Thelma's friends. Many of these pictures were placed on findagrave under their appropriate names. Many were returned to family members of that person.

Because of her generous gift, it made many people happy, especially me. I had no pictures of Dr. Brantley or any of his family - now we do. They can now be shared for many years to come.

The day after Debra contacted me, another granddaughter of Dr. Brantley's contacted me - Linda, who lives in California. I have now been in touch with her, and her mother's sister, who lives just a little way from me in Georgia. She plans to come to visit their graves with me and to place a marker on her little sister's grave, which has no marker. We found out she was buried by the Brantley's, and we didn't know that before.

So, you see here the wonderful benefits of findagrave. Had it not been for it, I wouldn't have met Debra or Linda. There would be no pictures to share nor none for you to see here.

Many, many thanks to Debra for her wonderful gift to me. I feel so very grateful for each and every picture and also the gift of her friendship and our phone visits. We laughingly call ourselves "half-cousins". We are very close and still talk frequently. Our lives are intertwined and hopefully always will be.
