Elisabeth Rose Schick was born Aug. 12, 1912 in East Troy, Wisc. to Joseph and Rose (Fedderer) Schick. She came to Wyoming where her mother homesteaded north of Douglas and she was educated in the Douglas schools. She attended Normal Training School in Chadron, Neb., and taught for several years in the rural schools.

Elisabeth married William Emmett Ballard in 1932. They moved to the Ballard ranch in northeast Converse County where they lived until the death of her husband, Emmett.

She was a member of the Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was active in Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron. She was active in the Douglas Branch of the Pioneer Society and a member of the Christmas Club, Sewing, and Craft Clubs.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Donna Ballard of Laramie; and Richard and Emily Ballard of Americus; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Anna Ballard, Helen Hanlin and Grace Williams, all of Douglas; and brother Ted Walton of Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emmett on June 4, 1978; sons William Ballard Jr. on March 10, 1992 and Donald Ballard on Aug. 10, 1993.
