Martha Mentzen, 86, passed away Sunday, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born the youngest of nine in Leich-lingen, Germany to Johann and Walburga (Fabri) Herweg.
Martha worked for many years at Mentzen's Store. She was also a talented seamstress, actively sewing well into her 80's. Martha was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church and a member of the Wilbraham Senior Center. She also delivered meals on wheels for many years. Martha was predeceased by her husband Walter Mentzen.
She is survived by her two sons; Hans Mentzen and wife Dona and Eric Mentzen and wife Cheryl, all of Wilbraham, and grandson Hans Mentzen II and wife Lin of Belchertown, as well as many nieces and nephews here and in Germany. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5-7pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at St. Cecilia's Church, 42 Main Street at 10:00am.
Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baystate VNA & Hospice, 50 Maple St., P.O. Box 9058, Spfld., MA 01101-9710.
