US Continental Congressman. Born in Duxbury, Massachusetts, he graduated from Havard College in 1762, obtained a Master's degree in 1765 and was a teacher in Kingston, Massachusetts. He was a delegate to the Provincial Congress, (1774-75), member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1775-79) and Massachusetts Plymouth County Sheriff, (1777-1812). He was a of member of the Continental Congress, (1779-85) and again a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1788. In 1789, he was elected as a Pro-Administration candidate to the First Congress and served until 1790, when he resigned. He died at age 88 in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
