Mrs. Banes was born in Sedalia, MO, to Maude and Jesse Duffield, and also lived with her sisters, Mildred and Dorothy. Growing up during the Depression, she always looked forward to the festivities of the Missouri State Fair in her hometown. Having gotten her cosmetician license, she moved to Kansas City, MO, and worked as a beautician and seamstress at H.D. Lee. She met her future husband, Stanley William Banes, and they celebrated married life for 63 years before his passing on January 2, 2003. Her daughters fondly remember her many efforts as Presbyterian church member and volunteer, Brownie leader, stage mom, Halloween costume maker, garage sale savant, Bette Davis look-alike, and PTA President. Children at her daughters' school had state-of-the-art playground equipment because of her PTA fundraising. Her quick wit and ever-present twinkle in her eye will be missed. She and her husband later became world travelers visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Europe. She often told of vivid memories of Paris, on Bastille Day, underneath the Eiffel Tower or being in Homer, AK, fishing for halibut. She still preferred family fishing trips at Lake of the Ozarks above all.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Art Jenner, Belton, MO, and Marsha and Ed Slater, Lake Tahoe, NV; grandchildren, Cherie Summa and Mark, Alan Jenner, Lora Hudson, and Grace Moyers and husband Jason; greatgrandchildren, Ben Hudson and Ryann and Ian Moyers; sister-in-law, and husband, Margie and Clayton Pirtle; and many nieces, nephews and friends. (Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel, 816-561-0024)
