Born Ehrnfried Persson in Hjularöd within Harlösa Parish to parents, Per Larsson and Bengta Larsdotter. In 1878 his father chose Larsson as thier family surname in keeping with new Swedish Law that changed traditional Patronymic names. He was known after as Ernfried Larsson. In 1890 he left Sweden for a new life in America. Leaving behind his parents, two older brothers, Gottfried and Carl Albin and two younger sisters, Maria and Augusta. Arriving 7 May 1890 on the S.S. Eider, during the shift of immigration offices from Castle Gardens to Ellis Island, New York, NY. Once again his name changed. He became Ernfred Lawson and established his residence in New Haven, CT. He worked hard and established himself as a premier carriage body maker. Family legend is that he was so successful that he was approached by the Fischer Brothers to work for them in the early days of the automotive industry and what would become General Motors. Thinking autos were a fad he declined thier offer.
He met, fell in love with, and married the lovely Ms. Sallie Custer Cassel in 1899. They had three boys... The oldest, Raymond Carl, then Wilbur D., and the youngest, LeRoy Ernfred.
He has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren who are forever greatful to him!
