The Oklahoman, Monday, March 6, 1950:
Mrs Clay Kerr, 54, of 1221 NW 41, teacher at Putnam City Jr High School since 1943 and wife of Clay Kerr, died Sunday morning at St Anthony Hospital. Ill a month and seriously ill three days, she had suffered a stroke.

Born in Guthrie, she married Kerr there and came to Oklahoma City in 1924. In 1936 she moved to Lawton, teaching in schools there until 1942 when she returned to Oklahoma City to take the Putnam City post as social science teacher.

Mrs Kerr graduated from Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond, in 1925 with a A.H. degree, taking a masters degree at Columbia University, NY in 1928. Former state treasurer of the American Association of University Women, she was a member of St Luke's Methodist Church, active in Sunday School work.

Her husband is director of school administration in the state Dept of Education, and former president of the Oklahoma Education Association.

Other survivors are a son, Charles, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX; a brother, A. F. Payne, 1143 NW 44; and her father, A. F. (F.D.) Payne, of the home.

Services will be 4:30 pm Monday in St Luke's with Rev. W. H. Wallace conducting the rites. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Street & Draper Funeral Home.
