Joseph Bohnett: After the death of his father in 1858, he lived with and was raised by Ulrick and Regina Laubengengayers of Scio Twp. Washtenaw Co. Mich. Then in after 1870, when he was about 23 years old, he moved to California He purchased a ranch from John Barker in 1876. In 1890, he purchased another 48 acres in Santa Clara Co., California, where he planted the entire ranch to fruit bearing trees; prunes, apricots, cherries. His farm was known as the "Orange Grove Farm" because of the groves of orange trees in front of the white farm house. He was one of the pioneers in the Apricot and Prune drying industry. In 1919, Joseph build a bungalow on his ranch for himself and Floyd (his son) moved into the old family home. After Joseph's retirement, he carved small wooden horses, and played the harmonica and developed his own one man band. Joseph was a Republican, Charter member of Orchard City Grange & Master of the organization for two years. He served as trustee of the Cambrian School District for 30 years. In 1936, the Cambrian District near Campbell, California named the Elementary School "Joseph Bohnett Elementary School", in honor of his many years of service to the School District.
