Earl was born and raised on his family's farm in Azailia, Michigan. He worked as a farmer until he married, Dora Miller, and moved to Detroit.
Earl was hired to work at Ford Motor Compamy Stamping Plant in approximately 1935. He worked there until he retired.
Once Earl became a factory worker, he and his brother, Justus, decided to build their houses next to each other on one acre lots in Romulus, Michigan. Earl raised his three daughters there, and lived in this house until he died in 1980.
