Most of the Brown family including John and Alexander moved to Pettis County, MO around 1830. Alexander got his medical degree in Pennsylvania, although it is not certain exactly when and where. The Brown family remained in Missouri for several years. Alexander's sister, Elizabeth Brown married Alexander's wife Sarah's brother George Marshall. Sometime around the late 1840s John Brown received head rights to land in the newly formed Texas Republic. Soon after, John Brown moved to Texas along with his sons including Alexander. Dr. Alexander Brown was one of the first physicians in Titus County. He owned a pharmacy that was destroyed in the Civil War by Union soldiers. He later ran a pharmacy out of his home, where his daughter Irena was the pharmacist. More information about the Browns was written by Claude Alexander in a weekly series that ran in the Mt Pleasant Daily Tribune in 2008.
