Mary Ellen Andrews Anderson, 62, of Fridley and formerly of Lindstrom passed away Friday Dec 14, 1990 at St. Mary's Hospital, Minneapolis. Mary suffered several years from raynaud's disease and scleroderma, her illness progressing quickly within the past few months causing congestive heart failure.

She was born July 1, 1928, at St. Mary's Hospital to Raymond and Margaret Andrews of Lindstrom. She grew up in Lindstrom and graduated from Center City-Lindstrom High School in 1946 and from St. Mary's School of Nursing, St. Catherine's College in 1952.

She married Robert M. Anderson of Cross Lake June 30, 1952 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, also the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents. Bob and Mary lived in Deadwood, South Dakota; Cheyenne, WY, St. Cloud, Minnesota and for 22 years in Minneapolis, where he was associated with the Minnesota Dept of Education as Vocational Fund Coordinator until his death, Jan 18 of this year.

Mary worked at several hospitals as a registered nurse and was president of St. Mary's School of Nursing Alumnae.

Cleroderma, cause unknown and incurable, is a disease of the collogen-forming tissues with crippling effects attacking the skin and or internal organs. It first affected Mary's hands, so that she could not continue nursing after 1965 and also interfered with her talent as a pianist. It then spread to her esophagus causing choking and severe eating problems and eventually throughout her body.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents, Raymond and Margaret Andrews and her sister Virginia Louise.

She is survived by her son Robert Marc, Fridley and daughter Mary Beth Todd) Newman, Bloomington;a brother, Charles (Mary) Andrews, Minneapolis, a sister Susan (Robert) Wilson, Lindstrom;nieces and nephew Elizabeth, Katherine, Michael, Jane and Maggie Andrews; and Mark, Tom, Anne, Steve and Susanna Wilson.
Mass of christian burial was held on Wednesday, Dec 19 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Whittier officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Anderson now rests as a fifth generation of the Andrews family in Lindstrom, in the family plot beneath the only oak tree at Fairview Cemetery.
