"Richfield Springs --- Mrs. Mary Elwood Welden, 85, of 28 Church St., widow of attorney William T. Welden and correspondent for the Utica newspapers from 1903 to 1946, died yesterday in her home. She was born in Richfield Springs, daughter of Arthur H. and Harriet Losee Elwood, and graduated from local high school and from the Hillside School at Norwalk, Conn. Mrs. Welden was a charter member and a past regent of Ganowauges Chapter DAR, served many years as historian for the State DAR, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and its auxiliary and Rector's Aid. During World War I she organized war relief programs here. Mrs. Welden was a descendant of the pioneer Beardsley family. Mr. Welden died in 1958. She leaves two daughers, Mrs. Richard M. Shepard, Cooperstown; Mrs. William H. Delavan, Skaneateles, and a sister, Miss Madline Elwood, Richfield Springs. The funeral will be Monday from St. John's Church at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Lawrence Crawford Butler, rector of St. John's Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery."
