Cindy was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina (present day Transylvania County, NC). Her older brother Josiah Brock is buried in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cherokee County, AL. She married Silas N. Adams in the early 1830's and they resided in Buncombe County where their two oldest sons (Thomas and Alex)were born. Census records record state that Silas and Cindy's oldest daughter Susan was born in Alabama in 1838 marking about the time of the families move to what is now known as the Will's Valley in modern day DeKalb County, AL. Sometime in the 1850's the family moved to Lookout Mountain.
