LEOMINSTER - Alice L. (Corliss) Theriault, 100, of Leominster, died Sunday, March 11, in the Life Care Center of Leominster, after an illness.
She was born in Fitchburg on Nov. 25, 1906, the daughter of Harvey D. and Genevieve (Cassasa) Corliss and lived in Fitchburg for most of her life. She attended and graduated from The Academy of The Sisters of the Faithful Companions of Jesus in the Cleghorn section of Fitchburg.
Mrs. Theriault studied and taught dance. Her very first job was as a dance instructor for the Fitchburg Parks Department at age 16. She then went on to school in Boston to study dance. For 62 years she taught dance at the Alice Corliss Dance School, retiring in 1973. She along with her husband moved to Cape Cod for a few years and then returned to Leominster where she opened a studio for dance in her home. She taught dance their until 1984.
She was a founding member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster and was active in the Ladies Guild at the church.
Mrs. Theriault leaves her son, Leonard F. Theriault of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two granddaughters, Tonia Theriault and Christine Plaud; four great-grandchildren, Cory Bazillion, Brianna Plaud, Nicholas Milluzzo, and Logan Theriault; many nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces; and her many former students and close friends who went to visit her for many years. She was predeceased by one brother, William Corliss and three sisters, Vera Ferguson, Louise LaFave, and Madeliene Matterson. Her husband of 58 years, Lawrence E. Theriault, died in 1994.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 15, from the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of The Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster. Interment to follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
