FINAL RITES FOR PIONEER TO BE TODAY
Funeral of Thomas Bones Will Mark Last Chapter in Active Business Life
Funeral services for Thomas Bones, pioneer of Los Angeles county, who died last Tuesday at the family residence, 1319 North Fairfax avenue, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at 1815 South Flower street. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Bones, who was 86 years of age and had lived in Los Angeles county for the last fifty-three years, passed away after only a few hours of illness. Born at Sussex, Eng., he came to Canada with his parents when he was 6. Later he went to New York State, passing his boyhood on a farm. Following a few years on a farm near Hillsboro, Wis., he went to Rochester, Minn., in which city he married Miss Martha Murdock, who died in Los Angeles in 1904.
In 1874 Mr. and Mrs. Bones left Rochester for California, settling first in San Mateo county. Following a year in the lumber business the family came to Los Angeles and later moved to a farm near Inglewood. Mr. Bones was engaged in agricultural and horticultural work until about fifteen years ago, when he retired from active business life. He was a member of the Methodist church. A history of his life is recorded in J. M. Guinn's "Historical and Biographical Record of Southern California." He had been a reader of the Times since its first publicaton.
Mr. Bones leaves his son, Henry H. Bones; two brothers, Edward Bones of Los Angeles, and Arthur Bones of Elroy, Wis.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bones Thompson and Mrs. Anna Bones Board of Elroy.
