Cecil Jackson
Cecil Jackson, age 78 of Monroe, died on August 27, 2011. He was born in Walton County on July 6, 1933 to the late Nelson Roy Jackson and the late Gladys Treadwell Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, the late Amy Jackson Smith and Grover Smith, his brother, the late Maurice Jackson.

He graduated from Monroe High School, Truett McConnell College, and received his undergraduate degree from Mercer University. While at Mercer University, he served as Music Director and Youth Leader at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. After graduating from Mercer University, he taught school at Druid Hills High School, where he was honored as â??Teacher of the Yearâ??. He served in the US Army for two years and returned to Druid Hills High School for one more year. He entered the University of Georgia to work toward his Masters and PHD in Psychology, and he served as Assistant Registrar at the University. Mr. Jackson also served as Music Director and Youth Leader at First Baptist Church in Winder, GA. After receiving his PHD from the University of Georgia, he worked for AT& T in New York and Washington, D.C. His love of teaching brought him back to Georgia to teach psychology at Kennesaw College for 2 years. He then had the opportunity to go to North Georgia College to become head of the Psychology Department, where he remained for over twenty years where he retired from the University system. He was also honored as â??Teacher of the Yearâ?? at North Georgia College. Mr. Jackson then went to work for International Loss Capital, where he travelled all over the world teaching seminars and retired a second time. He has been a resident of Great Oaks in Monroe, GA for approximately eight years.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday August 29th at 1:00 P.M. at Center Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Marion Prather officiating. Interment will follow at Center Hill Baptist Church.
