Anthony Crumbley House was one of the sons of William Elias and Catherine Crumbley House. Although he lost his father early in life (1838), he supported his mom greatly and helped her move from Henry County, GA, to Alabama in the early 1850's.

Anthony was enlisted by Capt. Dillard 2nd Alabama Batt. Hilliard's Legion, later served with the 59th Alabama Infantry during the Civil War and was a third Corporal. Captured as a POW, 17 June 1864, paroled from Elmira, NY 19 Jun 1865. His parole and oath allegiance described him as 5 '8 light hair, blue eyes, 32 yrs old. He and his brothers William E, and George V. are said to have all walked home from NY together.

According to the on-line history of the Primitive Baptist Church , he was very crucial to the church being here: "This church was constituted Dec. 9, 1881, with nine members' presbytery Elder J. J. Cleveland and Deacon A. C. house. Elder Cleveland was their first, and is their present pastor;"

Anthony is my 3rd great uncle.
And is the cousin 5x removed of David Rowl, the memorial's creator.
