U.S. Congressman. Born in Cincinnatus, New York, he attended Burhan’s School and was successful in mercantile pursuits, the manufacture of lumber, farming and real estate business. He was chairman of the board of supervisors of the town of Dryden, (1857-58), a member of the New York State Assembly, (1860-61), a member of the senatorial district war committee in 1861 and a delegate to many Republican National Conventions. In 1877, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth, Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1883. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed former business activities and was vice president of the Southern Central Railroad. He died at age 66 in Dryden, New York.
