Salvador R. Chavez of Hayden was born June 24, 1921 in Aguas Calientes, Mexico to Octaviano and Soledad Chavez. He passed away surrounded by family on Aug. 31, 2011 at the age of 90 in Mesa.

Salvador worked for ASARCO as a machinist, retiring after 42 years of service in 1983. He enjoyed watching all sports, attending his grandchildren's events and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Consuelo; parents, Octaviano and Soledad; six siblings, Carlos, Guillermo, Antonio, Melesio, Carmen, and Celia Gomez; and son-in-law, Alfonso R. Aguirre. He is survived by a son, Salvador M. (Mary Helen) Chavez; daughters, Odelia Aguirre, Rosalie (Jimmy) Garcia; brothers, Frank, Jose and Rex; sister, Angelina Torres; five grandchildren, Lisa (Nick) Garcia, Leonard Aguirre, Leticia Garcia, Steven Garcia, Jaime Garcia; and eight great-grandchildren, Armando and Alicia Garcia, Matthew Aguirre, Noah Graham, Analisa, Mariela, Javier and Fabian Canisales.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Sept. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hayden. Internment followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Griffith Mortuary.
