BERT BIRKETT MEETS DEATH AT THE LAWRENCE
ROCK FROM ROOF FELL ON HIM
Accident happened shortly after noon on Thursday
Bert Birkett was instantly killed at the Lawrence mine Thursday by being struck in the back of the head by a huge slab of rock which fell from the roof of the mine, shortly after noon yesterday. As we go to press, arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.

Bert Birkett was born at Hazel Green, Grant Co., WIs., Dec. 25, 1878 and died July 15, 1915.
In 1900 he was married to Esther Alton of Benton, Lafayette Co., WIs. To this union two children were born - Lloyd and Louis, who with his wife survive him.
His death was caused by the falling of rock in the Lawrence mine at which place he was employed. He was proprietor of the restaurant at Hazel Green known as Birkett's restaurant and was well and favorably known by many people. He was ever ready to lend a helping hand to every needy call.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at Hazel Green on Saturday, July 17. A large number IOOF of which he was a member attended the funeral in a body. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. His wife and children have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
