Born Oct. 15, 1928, in Tau Manua, American Samoa, he lived in Vista for 11 years. He lived in Oceanside for 38 years previously. He retired as a petty officer 2nd class after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Samoan Congregational Christian Church since 1958.
Mr. Aunese was preceded in death by his son, Siasau "Sal" Aunese, in 1989; brothers Saupo T. Aunese and Popese S. Malemo; and sister Lotuvale Aunese. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Toluiva Aunese of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Iosefatu and Katerina Aunese and Rimoni and Yolanda Amituana'i Aunese, all of Vista, Sonny and Esita Aunese of Oceanside and Othiniel Otinery of Spring Hill, Tenn.; daughters and son-in-law Ruta Aunese-Tinoisamoa, Arieta Aunese and Siaopo and Emmanuel Lutu, all of Vista; sisters Pili Failauga of Seattle and Faisealofa Matagi of Ta'u American Samoa; grandchildren Tino, Pisa, Mike, T.C., Siasau, Vanessa, Talalelei, Eseese, Loimataoapaula and Erik; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the First Samoan Congregational Church, 745 De Benito Juarez in Vista; A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the First Samoan Congregational Church. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside.
