~excerpt~ The HONORABLE ELI H. BAXTER, died on his plantation in Cherokee county, Texas, on the 3rd day of January .He was a native of Hancock county, of which he continued, until his death to be a resident. He was educated under Dr. N. S.S. Beman, and at the State University, read law in the office of his brother-in-law, Oliver S. Skinner and about the time of attaining his majority married and began the practice in the village of Sparta...... After a residence of six years in the village, he retired to his country seat, Cornucopia, six miles distant, where he continued every afterward to reside.....
