He was born Feb. 6, 1910, in Howards Grove, a son of the late Louis and Johanna (Quehl) Dreier.
Walter attended school at Howards Grove, and was a member of the 1928-29 Village Basketball Championship team, where he earned the name "Speed."
Walter married Irmgard Beil at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel, on May 19, 1945. The couple celebrated 50 wonderful years together in 1995. He worked at Kohler Company for 40 years, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Walter retired in 1975.
He loved sports and fishing, and was an avid Packer fan. He loved parades, and was a real people person, enjoying telling many good stories. Walter was the proud owner of a Ford Model 8N Tractor.
Walter was a member of the Howards Grove Fire Department over 40 years, having served the department as past president. He was a faithful member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, serving as both Elder and Deacon, and past president of the Men's Brotherhood. He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving Walter is his loving wife of 57 years, Irmgard, of Howards Grove, two sons: Wayne (Nancy) and Mark (Carolyn) all of Howards Grove. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Angela (Matthew Kleczewski) Marie, Adam, Christopher, and Michael Dreier.
Further surviving Walter is one sister: Mildred Reichert of Howards Grove, one sister-in-law: LuAnn (Valentin) Siehs, and a brother-in-law: Howard (Delia) Beil of Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
A funeral service will be held for Walter at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, W3694 CTH FF, in rural Howards Grove, with the Rev. Wayne Drueck, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 from 4 p.m.. until 8 p.m. at Zimmer' Funeral Home, 117 N. Wisconsin Dr. in Howards Grove, and again on Wednesday at the CHURCH from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Walter C. Dreier
