VERGIE MOORE GARRISON
Vergie Moore Garrison, 88, died Wednesday (March 14, 2001) at Crystal River, Florida. Mrs. Garrison was a native of Wise County and daughter of the late Eliza Jane (Morris) and Charles T. Moore. She was a 1932 graduate of Big Stone Gap High School and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Kentucky Vocational Education System and a Kentucky Colonel. Preceding her in death were her husband Bascom Garrison and sons Charles Garrison and Donald Garrison.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lila Garrison Reach and Bill Reach of Homosassa, Fla.; daughters-in-law Phyllis Garrison of Knoxville, Tenn. and Sharon Garrison of Tampa, Fla.; sisters Elise Miller and Velma Wilson of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren Joseph Garrison of Tucson, Ariz., David Garrison of Huntsville, Ala., Beverly Reach Perry of Huntsville, Julie Reach Woods of Richmond, William Garrison of Tampa, Fla. and Laurel Garrison Buser of Tampa, Fla. She also had eight great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap. Memorial donations may be sent to the Dr. Charles B. Garrison Scholarship Fund c/o Freda Johnson, University of Tennessee, 721 Stokley Management Center, Knoxville, TN 37996-0570. Holding Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
