Gilbert Perkins, age 78 of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on Jan. 26, 2010 in Pocatello. He was with 24th Infantry Division for the first two months of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, DeLoa Perkins, 925 Belmont St, Pocatello, ID 83204-2134.

Gilbert Perkins, age 78 of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on Jan. 26, 2010 at Pocatello Care and Rehabilitation. He was born April 26, 1931 in Montpelier, Idaho. Son of Ira E. and Florence May Perkins. He was the fifth child of eleven children.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Ira E. and Florence May Perkins; two brothers, Melvin J. Perkins, Firth, Idaho and Gerald E. Perkins of Cokeville, Wyoming; and his sister, Ruth Perkins McLaws of Mesa, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, DeLoa Perkins; two sons, Wendell (Carol) Perkins of Tempe, Arizona and Russell (JoAnn) Perkins of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren, Seth and Alexandria of Chandler, Arizona; four brothers, Glenn (Mary) Perkins of Pocatello, Richard Perkins of Cokeville, Wyoming, George (Hazel) Perkins of Keller, Washington and Reed Perkins of Washington; three sisters, Elaine Langford of Brigham City, Utah, Virginia Mullin of Anderson, Missouri and Marie (Bill) Paddock of Sequim, Washington.

He attended school in Montpelier, Idaho and Cokeville, Wyoming graduating in 1952.

He was a member of the Church of Scientology and the LDS Church.

He served in the U.S. Army from January 1949 until June 1952. He was with 24th Infantry Division for the first two months of the Korean War and was then transferred to a Historical Detachment where he spent another 16 months helping to write the history of the Korean War.
He enjoyed driving truck, operating heavy equipment and building anything with steel or lumber. His hobbies were music, fishing, boating, camping, woodworking and yard work.

He worked for several companies around the Pocatello area; namely, JR Simplot Mine, Union Pacific Railroad, FMC Corporation, Williamson Body and Equipment Co., Rogers Food Company and the City of Pocatello. He enjoyed doing about any kind of work.

What he loved most was his wife, his children, his grandchildren, music, woodworking, and a good cup of coffee with his friends. He will always be remembered.
