John M. Miller was born February 7, 1834 in Marion County, Kentucky and lived with his father until he was married on August 27th, 1861 to Miss Eliza Scott. They lived in Kentucky about five years and then moved to Mississippi, where they remained one year. His wife's health becoming poor they moved to Illinois and remained about six months and then returned to Kentucky and lived three or four years; and then moved to Cass County, Missouri, where they lived about then years and then moved to Pratt County, Kansas, and settled near Iuka, where they lived until they moved to his late residence in the spring of 1881.
About a week before his death he was stricken down with pleura-pneumonia, which terminated in paralysis, causing his spirit to take flight about 11 o'clock Sunday morning, March 24th, 1895.
