Leland J. Haupt, 62, lifetime Manitowoc County resident, died unexpectedly at his farm home, Rt. 1, Manitowoc, Monday evening. He had been in good health and the seizure occurred shortly after he had returned from a wake for a brother, Myron, who died Saturday.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, with the Rev. T. F. Uetzman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The son of the late August and Bertha Vogt Haupt was born Aug. 27, 1895, in the Town of Newton. He married Elsa Carstens April 26, 1916, and the couple moved to its present farm in 1947. He served on the board of Whittier and Shady Side schools in the town and St. John Lutheran School, Newtonburg, as well as serving on the St. John Church Council six years. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Council three years and a member of the Men's Club.
He was a member of the Manitowoc County Sheriff and Deputies Assn. 30 years. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Francis Barta of Rt. 4, Manitowoc; five brothers, Sigfried and Erhardt of Rt. 3, Manitowoc, Milton and Hilbert of Rt. 1, Manitowoc and Allen of Rt. 4, Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Edwin Krueger of Rt. 3, Manitowoc and three grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Hilbert Bruss, died in 1942.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 3 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state until the hour of service.
