Graveside services for former Butte County Sheriff's captain Ensign Glenn Arbuckle, 66, of Durham will be held at 11 a.m. today at Glen Oaks Park in Chico. He died Monday in a local hospital.

He was born December 23, 1921 in Chico and went to school there. Arbuckle married the former Elsie Gruber on July 3, 1944 in Reno.

He retired from the Butte County Sheriff's Department in 1981 after 25 years of service. He was active in the Butte County Sheriff's Posse. He was an announcer for 30 years for horse shows at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds, patrolled the races as a mounted officer, and worked as a security officer at the old Richardson Springs resort.

He was active in community organizations, including the Durham Breakfast Exchange Club, participating in the annual toy drives and pancake breakfasts.

His club membership included: Leland Stanford Masonic Lodge No. 784, Chico Shrine Club, Butte Council No. 50, Royal Arch Masons No. 42, Chico Commandery No. 12, Chico High 12 Ben Ali Shrine, the Retired Public Employees Association of California, SIRS No. 84, past president of the Oroville Exchange Club and past president of the Chico Eagles Aerie No. 218. He was an honorary member of the Durham Saddle Pals.

Beside his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ensign, Jr. of Forrest Ranch and Merrit of Chico; three daughter, Marjorie Stephens of Los Molinos, Marsha Emerson of Vina and Gail Shelby of Santa Cruz; two brother, Earle and Daniel both of Chico; two sisters, Helen Wertz of Santa Rosa and Juanita Hodges of Selma and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Wednesday at the Brusie Funeral Chapel.
