Chico Record (Chico, California) 13 Jan 1931, Tuesday Page 1: Death Claims E.G. Arbuckle At Livermore. Ensign Glenn Arbuckle, 36, first assistant chief of the Chico fire department for the last nine years, died last night at the government hospital in Livermore.
Arbuckle, who had been receiving treatment at government hospitals in the bay district since November 25, had been recovering rapidly from a lingering illness, and had written relatives and friends that he expected to return to Chico at an early date. His condition, however, took a turn for the worse since Sunday, and he died at 6:15 o'clock last night.
Arbuckle, who made his home at 4230 Ninth Street, was born and reared in this city. He served as sergeant n the old Company A, National Guards, and upon enlistment in the army at the outbreak of the World War was made a recruiting officer in view of his past experiences in army work and served in that capacity in northern California.
For the last 14 years he had been a member of the fire department, serving as a call fireman until his appointment nine years ago as assistant chief. In the absence of Fire Chief C.E. Tovee he assumed the responsibility of directing fire fighting work, and held the respect of all the department members, as well as his other numerous friends.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Gladys Arbuckle; four children, Ensign Glenn Jr., Earl Clifford, Helen Virginia and Daniel Ryland Arbuckle; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Arbuckle.
H.C. Bicknell of the undertaking firm of Bicknell & Moore, accompanied by Arbuckle, left last night for Livermore to bring the body to Chico. Funeral services will be announced later.
