Donald was born June 30, 1932 in Ishpeming to the late Alfred and Laura (Christopher) Fredin. He served in the United States Army during the Korea Conflict, receiving the Purple Heart.
Donald worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for 27 years, first at the Mather B Mine, and retired in 1992 from the Tilden Mine. He enjoyed playing cribbage, golfing and fishing.
Donald is survived by 4 children, Greg (Sherry) Fredin of Ishpeming, Jace (fianceé Kimberly) Fredin of Gaylord, Dawn Fredin of Marquette and Lisa Fredin of Ishpeming; a brother, Ray (Lois) Fredin of Ishpeming; 6 grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessie, Stephanie and Emma, Hannah & Zoey; along with several nieces and nephews and a dear friend John Snell. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alfred Fredin, Jr. and a sister Betty Contois.
