JACOB NEWQUIST
Jacob Newquist, 87, died at his home, 101 S. Malcolm, Sunday at 1 p.m. after a long illness.
Newquist was born in Sweden Feb. 8, 1867 and went to Kansas City in 1890 where he was a cabinet maker.
He married Edla Forsberg in 1894. She died in 1904. Newquist moved to a farm near Chanute in 1912 and nine years later moved to Chanute where he opened a cabinet shop.
He is survived by two sons, Edward of the home and Fred of San Diego and a daughter, Mrs. Lillian M. Mitchell, Alameda, Calif. He was preceded in death by two sons, Enoch and George.
He was a member of the Grant Avenue Baptist church.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilson-Johnson chapel. The Rev. W. Gayel Bender of the First Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

After the death of his wife Edla (who died from "galloping consumption), he married her sister Hilma M. Forsberg April 15, 1905. She died April 4, 1908 of "galloping consumption" as well.
