Actor. He was best known for playing the character roles of journalists, telegraph operators, columnists, police officers, judges, military men, and doctors, usually in action films or crime films. He will be best remembered for playing the role of 'Private Peters' in the war film drama, "Seven Against The Sun" (1964). The film which was directed and written by David Millin, which was also written for the screen by James Ambrose Brown, and which also starred Gert van den Bergh, John Hayter, and Brian O'Shaughnessy, tells the story of which is set In February of 1941, when South African troops are in action against the Italian forces on the northern frontier of Kenya. An Italian invasion, aimed at pushing the Allied Forces out of Central and East Africa, is imminent. The South African Command realizes it has no forces at its disposal that are capable of stopping the Italian objective. The South African Command resorts to a grand bluff, designed to mislead the Italians into believing that heavy concentrations of South African troops are placed at strategic points---thus making the planned advanced impossible. He is also best remembered for playing the role of 'Dr. Kisch' in thirteen episodes of the popular television crime series, "John Ralling - Abenteuer um Diamanten," in 1975. He was born one of three children as Patrick Beattie Mynhardt in Bethulie, Free State, South Africa, to district surgeon Johannes Tobias Mynhardt (1894-1947), and his wife Irish immigrant Elizabeth Mary Beattie Mynhardt (1893-1967), on June 13, 1932. He was educated locally and then studied at De La Salle College in East London, England, and drama at the prestigious Rhodes University in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa, before he joined the National Theatre Organization in 1953, and then toured South Africa in stage productions. He then moved to London, England, to further study acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, an institute that offers a new form of training in speech and drama for young actors and other students. He eventually moved back to his native South Africa in 1960. He appeared in over 150 roles in numerous stage productions and operas most notably playing the role of 'Oom Schalk Lourens' in such stage plays as, "A Sip Of Jerepigo," "More Jerepigo," "Just Jerepigo," "Cold Stone Jug," and "Another Sip of Jerepigo." He divided his time between both South Africa and England and worked with such talents as Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole, Anthony Quinn, Burt Lancaster, Peter Sellers, Michael Caine, and Judi Dench, among many others. He then made the transition from the stage to films and television. He made his actual film debut playing the role of 'Barry Cilliers' in the film drama, "Vadertjie Langbeen" (1955). The film which was directed and written by Pierre de Wet, and which was also written for the screen by Jean Webster, also starred Rita Bornmann, Bob Griffiths, and Yvonne Theron.
