MATHEWS - Elsie Ambrose Hernandez, 88, devoted mother and grandmother, entered into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003. She now has a residence called heaven where she has joined her other family members. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard, and one son, David Lee Hernandez, daughter-in-law, Peggy Hernandez, and one brother, Capt. Marvin Ambrose. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, R.C. and his wife, Joyce, and Donnie; one daughter, Aileen Bruce and her husband, Roy; her four grandchildren, Susan Thomas, Donald Hernandez Jr., Debra Mountford, and Angela Drake; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one brother, Godfrey Ambrose of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and one sister, Mary Ambrose of Onemo, Va. Elsie was a member of Peniel Friends Church, Onemo, Va. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gwynn's Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peniel Friends Church, HC 69 Box 6390, Onemo, VA 23130.
