Musician. He was an Argentinian pianist and a prolific composer, who was best-known for his compositions "El Africano," "El Farol de los Gauchos," "Madame Ivonne," "Pan," "Nunca es Tarde," and others. His style was considered Tango Romanza. As a boy, he studied piano in his hometown before going to Buenos Aries to study. At the age of 15, he composed "El Africano", which is considered his best. Though very young, he led an orchestra in 1917 and performed with various groups touring the country. He performed as a musician in cafes, dance halls, silent screen movie theatres, and cabarets. Escaping mandatory military service, he traveled to Uruguay then to Chile, where he was part of a duo with a female dancer. In 1922 he returned to Argentina as he received a pardon for not serving in the military. He was nicknamed "Cooper Ray," " Chón " or El Chón Pereyra. He joined the RCA Victor Recording Company as an advisor. In 1926, he went to Europe playing mainly in Spain. After returning to Argentina, he started to compose in 1929 again. He was interested in native music and composed a zamba. After a long, serious illness, he toured Brazil. In 1932, he recorded his first solo piano performance. By the mid-1930s, his mental health was declining and he was losing his past memories. Throughout his career, he played with numerous groups. He died in a providence of Bueno Aries called Vicente López.
