Once more the town has been called to mourn the loss of one of its aged citizens, in the death of James Bowley who died Sunday morning. Mr. Bowley has been in poor health for the past year, but was not considered dangerously ill. Saturday morning he appeared to be as well as usual and went to bed, where he slept until 11 o'clock, when he awoke with a chill and was unable to speak. Help was quickly at hand and everything possible done to relieve him. He continued to fail and passed away at about 7 o'clock Sunday morning. He leaves a wife, two sons, and two daughters. Mrs. Lorana Bowley, George of Alton, Herbert of Mass., Mrs. Sarah Sandons of Mass. and Mrs. Chas. Collins of Alton. he also leaves one brother and two sisters, Charles Bowley of LaGrange, Mrs. Annie Moulton of Boston and Mrs. mary Coburn of Louisville, KY. Mr. Bowley would have been 84 had he lived until the 14th of April. He was a veteran of the Civil War also a charter member of Alton Grange 144, where he served as chaplin for a number of years. Sofly the whispered message com in the still of night, "come for your work is ended, come to your needed rest." The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in his late home Rev. L. G. March officiated. The members of the Alton Grange of which the deceased was a member, attended in a boyd. The bearers were George, Frank, Charles and Alfred Bowley, two sons and two nephews of the deceased. Interment was in the Alton cemetery.
