According to church history:
Jacob Simmons was a member of the church council in 1857 when the work begun on building the church.
The church was finished and dedicated on December 25, 1858. The money was collected by Emmanuel Holtz and Jacob Simmons who was treasurer of the council.
No Sunday School was held in the new building until the pastorate of Rev. Groff 1863 to 1869, when a Sunday School was organized by him with Jacob Simmons as the first Superintendent.
