He was born in Walker County on April 30, 1919, son of the late Joseph Clarence and Delia Ridley Ballinger. The Rev. Ballinger was a retired textile worker, a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors at the time of death were, wife, Mrs. Mildred Holbrook Ballinger (later passed on Aug. 29, 1992) Four daughters Mary, Linda, Sybil, and Frances. Eight sons Sherman "Buddy" (later passed on May 20, 2002) Pete, Charles, Ray, Eddie, Hoyt, Jimmy, and Randy.
