Lawrence was a WWII Army Veteran. He was with the Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company C and fought in Europe across France and Germany.

After the war he came home to Clymer, PA and married the love of his life, Isabell. They moved to Ebensburg, PA and raised their family. He began his career as a lineman for Rural Electric Association (REA), and over the years rose up to sit on the board of directors.

Lawrence loved hunting especially in Montana, and fishing. He was a member of the Greater Jackson Sportsmen's Club and the NRA.

Additionally:
Lawrence thought he was part Indian (today called Native Americans) because his mother, Thursie told some of her children she was Irish and told her other children she was Indian. Lawrence's great grandmother Matilda was pure Irish, specifically Scots-Irish, so that part is true. DNA testing has confirmed he is not part Native American. For the true story of why all of Thursie's siblings and then all of their children thought they were Native American, please read Matilda's Find A Grave memorial.
