John Patterson was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Patterson of Spring Valley IL. He was born in Morris, Grundy County IL, lived in Spring Valley, Bureau County IL, then lived in Granville, Putnam County IL. He worked as a miner and laborer. He married Elizabeth Johnstone (Johnston) in Seatonville, Bureau County IL, on November 9, 1901. John and Elizabeth had 5 children; John Alexander, Stewart, Gilbert, and twins Florence and Eva. Eva preceded him in death. John suffered for months with tuberculosis before his death. Services were held in the Granville Congregational Church on Tuesday, October 31, 1911, conducted by Rev. R K Stetson. Interment was in Granville Cemetery. Notice of his death was published in the November 8, 1911 Putnam Record.
