When he was 17, he married Irene Elvira Taylor, daughter of Nelson Taylor and Nancy Isabella Ouncibelle Rice, on 23 Feb 1868 in Clay County, Kentucky, USA. He divorced her and later in life, he married Mollie Johnson who he later divorced. Then he married Julia Ann Joseph.
