STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Funeral arrangements have been made for Karla "Karlita" Sanchez, a 7-year-old whom family members recalled as happy and kind and who enjoyed riding her bike and combing her hair.

She died Sunday of a heart condition. She had been rushed to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, the day before, after collapsing outside her Grant City home.

Karla was born in Toluca, Mexico, and came to Staten Island three years ago, living briefly in West Brighton, before moving with her family to Grant City.

She attended PS 52, in Grant City, where teachers remember her fondly.

Karla enjoyed going to church and praying, her family said. She liked to ride her bike at the park, and drawing pictures.

Her favorite thing to draw were hearts.

She was also fascinated by butterflies and flowers.

Karla enjoyed combing her hair and always wanted it to be perfect, her family said. She liked to have her fingernails painted. She was happy, loving, caring and very mature for her age.

"Everyone she came in contact with fell in love with her," said her father, Garet Sanchez.

"She was an angel that came from heaven to teach us a great lesson," said her mother, Beatriz Sanchez.

Karla and her family were members of the Calvary Assembly of God in Eltingville.

Also surviving is her sister, Karen Vanessa, who is in Mexico.

The funeral is from the Stradford Funeral Home, Concord, with a service tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God. Burial will be in Silvermount Cemetery, Silver Lake.
