VERNON KNOX JOHNSON, 78, Detroit, died on Friday, March 16, 2001, at his residence. He was born on October 1, 1922, in Franklin County, the son of the late Wilson and Albertie Page Johnson. He worked as a painter and was previously employed with Lighting Products in Highland Park, IL. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Virginia Lundy Johnson, one son-in-law Jerry Stone, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 19, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent with burial in the Cooper Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons - Vernon O'Neal (Virginia) Johnson, Fulton, MS, and Donald Herman (Barbara) Johnson, Detroit; two daughters - Virginia Charlene Stone, Fayette and Martha Ann (Michael) Li, Johnson City, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother - Ralph Johnson, Hamilton; four sisters - Ettmer Childers, Red Bay, Jesker Childers and Lillian Butler, both of Hamilton, Pauline Snow, Zion, IL.
Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent directed the services.
