He was born in Richmond county, Virginia, in 1819, and was first married to Rose Curby, who died in Tennessee leaving him with a three month old son. He then married Miss Littie Porter, who also died in 1874, and was buried in Tennessee, leaving him five children of whom none survive him. In 1875 he married Mrs. Carolina Simson, and five children were born.
He leaves his wife, one son and one step-daughter.
