She was born May 23, 1923 in Oakland, Md., the daughter of the late Thane Oliver and Madge (Enlow) White.
Mrs. Bailey was employed with Martin Marrietta, Baltimore for 15 years and later retired from Maryland General Hospital, Baltimore. She enjoyed attending RAMM (Martin Marrietta retirees); loved traveling to Deep Creek, Md., and staying in contact with family and friends to tell stories and reminisce about old times. She was also a past member of Essex United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Nix and her husband, Ron of Glenville; son, James Edwin DeWitt and his wife, Barb of Altoloma, Calif.; step children, Paul Bailey; Bill Bailey; Judy Gaver; grandchildren, Shawn Nix and his wife Meegan; Jessica Nix; Michelle Shaddy; Jenny DeWitt; Jason DeWitt, great grandchildren, Lucy Nix; Logan Nix; Brooklyn Tonkinson and Jay Shaddy.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her grandson, Thane Nix who died August 28, 2011.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A second viewing will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Parkwood Cemetery, 3310 Taylor Ave., Baltimore, Md., for the burial. Contributions in Mrs. Bailey's memory may be made to Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331.
