Gerry passed away quietly at St Clare Hospital in Lakewood, Wash., on Jan 14, 2008.

He was born Sept 4, 1926, in Dolores, Colo. His parents were J. Alan Hermance and Josie M. Dunagan.

Gerry grew up in several states besides Colorado. At various times he lived in Kansas, Arkansas and Texas in his youth. He attended school in Moran, Kan.

In 1984 Gerry was married to Josephine Alice Thurston Fawcett and they resided in Tacoma, Wash. He worked as a carpenter and handyman both owning his own business and working for others. He enjoyed gardening and tinkering with mechanical devices in his spare time and was known as a great storyteller and conversationalist.

Gerry enjoyed country music and was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Gerry and Jo were longtime participants in the Washington State Foster Parent program and provided care to many children over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; his sister, Annie Hinton, of Cortez, Colo.; an adopted son and daughter, Jeff and Ciji Hermance, of Tacoma; and a grandson, Frankie Mackey of Arkansas. He is also survived by a large extended family which consists of daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other family members that loved and miss him dearly. He was our grandpa and dad, the only grandpa and dad that some of us knew. He loved all of us as much as we loved him!

Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Danny; daughter, Betty Mackey; and stepson, William Ewing, of Ottawa, Kan.
