"John Ritter was a very early settler in the Helvetia district. He married Rosa Wenger, who had arrived from Switzerland with her parents in 1873"

Text of obituary from the Hillsboro Independent newspaper, January 23,1931:

"John Ritter, 82, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.W. Pieren in Portland, and the funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Helvetia church with Rev. Scheidt and Rev. Graf officiating; internment being in the church cemetery. Deceased was born March 15, 1849, in Switzerland. He came to Oregon at the age of 20 and settled on a farm near Hillsboro. Four daughters and three sons survive: Mrs. J. O. Kuhns, and Mrs. F.W. Pieren of Portland, Mrs. Charles Atkins of Camas, Wash., Mrs. Emma Patton of Hillsboro, Emil Ritter of Arlington, and Chris and George Ritter, both of Hillsboro."
