Barbara was a neighbor of the Charles Maynard family farm on Goodwin Rd in Portland Township. Barbara lived with the Maynard's after completing school; she was her handmaiden from the age of 14 and remained her life long companion. When Helen married, Barbara went along as housekeeper, cook, etc. When Helen was widowed, Barbara's role as companion her last 26 years of her life. Barbara received the Maynard/ Woodbury house on Bridge Street and bank stock when Helen died.She remained in the mansion a short time after Helen's death and then purchased a small home at 119 Albro St. in Portland. She inherited the mansion and stock in the Maynard Allen Bank upon the death of Helen Maynard Woodbury.
