He was a retired Conductor of the E.J. & E. Railroad. James was a member of the U.S. Handball Association. One of Mr. McGee's lifelong passions was handball, and he held the Indiana and Illinois State Title. James was a lifetime member of the Omni. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Navy and a recipient of the National Defense Service medal. Two of Mr. McGee's favorite places on Earth were Rainbow Beach in Chicago, IL and Santa Barbara, CA. James was preceded in death by his father, James P. McGee Sr. He is survived by his sister, Donna M. McGee of Merrillville; two half brothers: Timothy McGee of Merrillville and Michael (Carla) McGee of Hobart; half sister, Carol (William) Soltis of Crown Point; very special niece, Victoria McGee of Merrillville; dear friend, Duke Koches of Merrillville; lifelong friends: Robert (Delores) Tutlewski of Crown Point and Miles Paine of Santa Barbara, CA; lifelong love, Jessica Cashman of Santa Barbara, CA.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5885 Harrison Street, Merrillville, with Rev. Dennis J. Teles, officiating. There will be no visitation prior to memorial mass. Burns Funeral Home, Crown Point Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
