Lifelong Kimball resident Richard E. Burback, 72, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his home.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 24, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with Father Francis Curran officiating. Burial was at Kimball Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary was Monday, April 23 at the funeral home.

He was born on October 28, 1928, in Kimball to Henry and Anna (Honstein) Burback. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1946. He started farming at the age of 14 with his brother Harry.

He married Elizabeth (Betti) Knoblauch April 23, 1957, in Cheney, Kan.

He is survived by his wife, Betti of Kimball; son John Burback and his wife Shelly of Kimball; daughters Kim Baliman and her husband Todd of Kimball and Pamela Boer and her husband Wayne of Lyons, S.D.; brother Harry Burback of Kimball; sisters Esther Novotny and Elizabeth Strasheim, both of Kimball, and Irene Young of Scottsbluff; and eight grandchildren Ryan Burback, Steven Burback, Hunter Baliman, Richie Boer, Jarrod Boer, Maggie Baliman, Mollie Baliman and Kellie Boer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice, St. Joseph's Catholic Church Renovation Fund or to the Kimball County Agricultural Society.
